THE LIFE: The Line Up
Posted by Ogle B. Straight on March 15th, 2010 filed in Uncategorized‘The Life’ is the 8th Annual Event presented by B.S. Mitrick in New Providence, Pennsylvania.
It all goes down on July 16th and 17th 2010!
For 7 straight years we have presented this event called ‘The FEST’. It has always been a time for a variety of people to come together and experience art, music, ideas, and each other. We have seen great musicians, hilarious video artists, and the loveliest of ladies over the years. Each summer comes with much anticipation and is highlighted by this fantastic weekend.
For our 8th year, we want to bring a few things around full circle. Take some of the humorous or interesting things from the 2003-2005 Summerfest years and bring them back one last time. At the same time, we want to present something brand new that will amaze and awe. So, I’d like announce the line up for ‘THE LIFE’ a B.S. Mitrick Production.
FRIDAY JULY 16, 2010
6:00pm - 8:00pm : ‘The Jam Called Life’
There will be cool things that happen at any event that cannot be pre-planned. We have always been aware of this and we have appreciated the many extraordinary moments that were created by the people who attend this thing called ‘The Fest’. That’s why we want to open ‘The Life’ with a big moment of chance. This will be an open invitation to any and all musicians out there to come up on stage and play. Either show up with something prepared or just wing it with a couple of other willing participants and see what goes down.
In the early years of ‘Summerfest’, the majority of the day was set up just like this. There was not really a band line up back then. It was like a pile of instruments laid out just waiting for bodies to play them. We are excited to see what will happen as ‘The Life’ begins with this free form jam session.
8:00pm : ‘Longest Flip Cup Table Championship for Guinness Book of World Records’
Even though we stopped serving free beer in 2007, we still have had the presence of table drinking games throughout the years of ‘The Fest’. This has been controversial because while some attendees loved the Beer Pong/Flip Cup action, others found it distracting at times. Well, ‘The LIFE’ is all about the truth, and the truth is that these games were a real part of this event. So, let’s embrace it this year! We will be going for the Guinness Book Record of Most People in a Game of Flip Cups. So, we need everybody to be in attendance at 8pm on Friday to help us achieve this wild LIFE goal!
9:00pm : ‘The Return of The SUCKA D’s’
The quintessential musical act of the early Summerfest years was undoubtedly ‘The Sucka D’s’. (also ‘Scrotus’) Well, ‘The D’s’ will be making their return to the stage after 4 years. Who knows what this set will hold. Most likely it won’t hold anything back. ‘The Sucka D’s’ were a band of crazy experimentation and mayhem. There were never any rules, just the knowledge that ‘All you gotta do is get on the D. . .and check my stee’.
SATURDAY
2pm-3:15pm : ‘EIGHT: The Ben Shirk Prawject’
The longest running act, appearing at all 8 Fests: The Ben Shirk Prawject. The core band exists but guest musicians are always welcome in this set. If you want to be on stage with one of the greatest main attractions ever to be assembled in life, now’s your chance. The Ben Shirk Prawject is the straight up deal!
3:45pm-4:30pm : ‘The Ogle B Straight Stee’
This one man band features electronic looped effects, 80’s style synthesized beats, and electric guitar licks with a few vocals mixed in. This was a major musical act in 2004-2006, but has not appeared since then. Ogle B Straight was considered to be a loner who played music that was very close and personal to him. Perhaps in a period when he was questioning his ability to connect with the audience, he quit performing. This will be his first live performance in 4 years.
THE MAIN ATTRACTION!
5:15pm-6:15pm : ‘Samson Trinh and the Mills Family Band featuring Adrian Duke’
The Mills Family Band will be making their 3rd appearance at a B.S. Mitrick event. This will most certainly top the past 2 years as they are adding a three piece horn section as well as the amazing Adrian Duke on keyboards and vocals. They have consistently performed exciting and emotional sets that are mixed with fantastic originals and impressive cover tunes. In the past they have made us laugh, they’ve made us cry, and they’re damn sure gonna make us dance!
THE MAIN ATTRACTION 2!!
7:00pm-8:15pm : ‘Samson Trinh and the Mills Family Band featuring Adrian Duke’
BEATLES MUSIC!! Possibly a full album. At this point there’s no official word as to what they are going to do with their second set at ‘The Life’. All we can do is mention the rumors. Samson Trinh is about to release his album which is a big band version of The Beatles ‘Abbey Road’. However, we have also heard that the Mills Family Band is a huge fan of ‘Rubber Soul’. Whatever it happens to be, this set of live music should not be missed by anyone.
9:15pm-10:15pm : ‘Grab This One Band’
Featuring creators of ‘The Fest’, Sean Patrick and Brandon Mitchell, and Adam Nicodemus holding it together on drums, this rock and roll band has been pushing through the years and making improvements all along the way. They will be performing in support of their 1st studio album.
THAT’S COOL STUFF, FOLKS! COME TO IT!

Unfortunately today I received an email stating that Guinness Book of World Records did not accept our submittal for ‘Longest Table Ever in a Game of Flippy Cups’. They said it was due to lack of interest in the subject. Well, I wasn’t sure about that so I looked it up online. Now, I know looking it up online isn’t the most thorough way of going about it, but it’s the quickest. So, I did that and found that, indeed, there is not much worldly interest in Flippy Cups. Having said that, I also know that the table I have in mind will in fact be the longest in recorded history. If we accomplish this goal with the most people we can gather, we will be doing our part to raise this event to Guiness Book Status. Therefor, I still believe that this will be a challenge to raise awareness for the Guinness Book of World Records!
We just won’t be creating new record to be broken. . .yet.
